Impact of coronavirus on the port supply chain

The consequences of Covid-19 are being felt. At the port of Calais, we are adapting to ensure an optimal level of security and protect crew members in transit and our employees.

Logistics and port handling: is a slowdown in activity expected?

As could be expected, the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19), which appeared in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, in southern China, have had consequences on a global scale. To prevent the spread of the virus, employees are confined to their homes and production lines are operating at a slow pace. Similarly, truck drivers and dockers are no longer able to work. Result: temporary supply problems are to be expected with sourcing relocated to other regions of the world (Vietnam, South Korea). When the situation returns to normal, shippers risk seeing ships under capacity due to the use of air and rail to speed up the delivery of goods.

High level of security maintained in ports

In ports of call and unloading, such as Boulogne-Calais, it is a question of ensuring exemplary health and safety so that the boats can maintain their stopover. In any case, the problems linked to port logistics should be resolved in the long term.

We remain 100% available and responsive for the delivery of your goods in the best possible conditions.
